2010 Bimota Tesi 3D Motorbike
“The Forkless Wonder”
At the 2006 EICMA Motorcycle Show in Milan, Italy, Bimota launched their cutting-edge technology of emotion, the Tesi 3D Concept. Bimota being a “Bike Boutique”, a different type of motorcycle manufacturer, creating limited production, hand-built works of art instead of mass production motorcycles.
This innovative technology of Hub-steering was developed entirely in-house by Bimota and first introduced in 1992 in the Bimota Tesi 1D. The Tesi 3D was the culmination and refinement of this state-of-the-art technology. The frame on this third evolution Tesi utilized the trellis structure with a billet-alluminium omega frame. The front suspension being re-designed, now using a pull-rod mechanism with a single hydraulic suspension located beside the engine (suspension is via tension “pull-piston” instead of compression). Steering links reside completely on the left side of the bike.
The concept of this type of suspension was to eliminate “dive” under heavy breaking, reducing weight on the rear wheel. The result being under heavy braking on this type of suspension’ is that the rider submarines down into the bike keeping as close as possible a 50/50 weight distribution, benefiting in better handling, improved stability during braking and being able to turn while on the anchors.
Every Bimota Tesi 3D is hand built by 1 man, the same and only guy since the beginning of the Tesi 1D.
It is adorned with:
- Carbon fibre body parts and cowling in a large weave
- Light alloy trellis frame
- Forged alluminium OZ racing wheels
- Brembo brakes front and rear
- Ducati 1100 DS (Dual-Spark) motor
- Billet alluminium machined parts all round, from the delta frame right down to the brake and clutch levers
- Hybrid analog and LCD display
- Painted in traditional Bimota colors of Black/Red/White with the black being clear-coated carbon fibre
